What is the story on marijuana? Wed. (3/22) there was a daylong hearing at the Capitol on bills which would legalize it in Connecticut. There was lots of conflicting testimony about the risks and benefits and the chances of any bill legalizing pot appears to be iffy. Medical Marijuana is already legal in Connecticut and Simsbury has one of four medical marijuana production facilities in the state. It remains very controversial so the Simsbury Community for Care recently held a panel discussion on current perceptions, the impact of the legalization of medical marijuana and the possibility of legalizing recreational marijuana. The panel included a pediatrician, a family therapist, recovery & substance abuse counselors, law enforcement and a parent. Topics included how marijuana available today differs from what was available to previous generations; how marijuana affects the teenage brain; the relationship between marijuana use and the use of other “harder” drugs; and Issues involving the legalization of recreational marijuana. An SCTV volunteer was there, so if you missed the panel, you can watch it on TV. Check the SCTV website at Simsburytv. org for air dates or watch it on line at: http://simsburytv.org/v/Db_i2C9xhss
